Our Story

In 2019 Ren and I each lived on the coast; Ren in San Francisco’s Sunset District and I in Moss Beach. We each have a deep affinity for the ocean - walking its shore and surfing during the day, taking in spectacular sunsets in the evenings, and falling asleep to the sound of waves. Living just 20 minutes apart for years, our paths never crossed. Instead, we found ourselves at times in relationships with people that were almost, but not really a fit. Content to be single, each of us lived rich lives with loved ones, following our interests in art and design, and a common affinity for atmospheric electronic music and world travel.

We met the "old fashioned way" ... on a dating app. The app revealed very little about each other, but I felt compelled to reach out to Ren right away within hours of my signing up. As it turns out, that was the same day she signed up too.

Our first meeting almost didn’t happen. I asked Ren out and she jokingly responded that she was washing her hair, which I took literally. Eventually, Ren did circle back, to my surprise and delight. A first meeting at the Moonraker restaurant in Pacifica overlooking the ocean followed. We each remember the sunset but neither of us can remember what we ate or many other details of that first meeting. We talked for hours and closed down the restaurant, not only on our first date, but the second and third as well. We both freely admit to a feeling of just knowing right then and there on first meeting that there was something deeply right about each other, although neither of us knew why or would admit it just yet.

 

In the weeks and months that followed, our courtship would include hours-long phone calls while Ren was back in Louisiana celebrating her 40th, as well as more dates with the ocean as a backdrop (date #2 was at La Costanera in Montara). As November turned into December and the new year was nearly upon us, we began to travel and meet each other’s friends and family. We didn’t know it yet, but the countdown to COVID had already begun. Eventually, just under the wire of COVID locking down our lives in March, Ren, Liam, Isaac and I moved into our new home together in Pacifica - the midpoint between San Francisco and Moss Beach, the town of our first meeting and where we have been living happily (ever after).
